Pu'ukumu 9th Grade Curriculum

Pu’ukumu School’s unique curriculum and dynamic learning environment provide students with the tools to succeed while also supporting them on their individual personal journeys. Our curriculum is a combination of college-prep and experiential instruction, encouraging students to learn in a self-directed and collaborative manner.

Creativity, resourcefulness, and critical thinking skills are nurtured by exposing students to a variety of learning methods. To reinforce skills and understanding of concepts, we utilize teacher-led instruction, peer-to-peer learning, and digital content. Surrounded by Kauai’s beautiful natural resources, students also have an outdoor classroom at their fingertips.

Student Project Spotlight

We’re proud and excited to share a student project from last year, which demonstrates their curiosity, along with their pride in the school and its natural surroundings. The group produced a short movie about the school for their Digital Media Elective. They filmed classrooms and other school property, setting the scenes to music.

According to their teacher, Claire Sampels, “The final product gives the feeling of openness, both mentally and physically, describing the kind of creative space that inspires learning at Pu’ukumu….this video describes perfectly how they feel about their school. One is left feeling curious to explore, excited by possibility, and ready to know more.”

Please check out the students’ video, “Pu’ukumu – The Movie.”

Warmest Aloha,
